Course Learning Outcomes

Our students will have the ability to;

• Develop and increase the knowledge acquired in Science, need to know and the principles of the scientific method in an academic level

• Know the method of history and use the necessary methods and means to conduct academic research in the History of Science and Technology

• Analyse the knowledge related to the History of Science and Technology by using a problem solving approach and application skills in addition to research methods specific to the discipline of history.

• Independently utilise the knowledge requires proficiency in the History of Science and Technology in solving complex problems by developing new approaches and taking responsibilities and to be able to reach authentic conclusions.

• Use the knowledge related to the History of Science and Technology in the assessment of developments that shape the formation of disciplines and to reach genuine conclusions.

• Analyse and interpret the development stages of science and technology in different civilizations beginning from the antiquity.

• Collect and interpret the data for the History of Science and Technology Studies and present the solution proposals by considering the social, scientific, cultural and ethical values (field specific competence)

• Convey current developments and one’s own studies related to the History of Science and Technology to the groups in and out of the field on international platforms in oral, visual and written forms with a foreign language.

• Possess the most advanced skills and techniques required for research in the History of Science and Technology, including synthesis and assessment, necessary for problem identification and solving, expanding and redefining the existing knowledge or the professional practice

• Assess and synthesise that will analyse new and complex ideas in the History of Science and Technology with a critical approach.

• Contribute to the knowledge in the field of History of Science and Technology by developing a qualified study based on original research, some of which is worth to be published in national and international peer-reviewed journals.

PhD Graduation Requirements

      • Having completed a total of at least 24 credits,

      • Receiving a minimum grade of CC in each course,

      • Meeting the 30% English language proficiency requirement,

      • Maintaining a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00,

      • At least 50% of the courses taken during the PhD program must be 600-coded,

      • A minimum of 50% of the courses taken during the PhD program must be BVT-coded,

      • The grade for the Proficiency Exam (Yeterlilik) must be BL (Pass),

      • The grade for the Thesis course must be BL (Pass),

      • Learning an ancient language,

      • For departments affiliated with the Graduate School of Social Sciences, students are required to have a paper published or accepted for publication in international indexed and peer-reviewed journals as defined by ITU Academic Promotion and Appointment Criteria, and to have presented a paper related to their thesis at an international conference.
